Things That You Want to Know About Coin-Operated Locker Storage in Japan
Do you wonder how spacious is the locker storage in Japan? Maybe you wonder if your suitcase and backpacks will be fit enough inside the locker, as you travel around the city in Japan for your day trip. You will find a lot of locker storages nearby or in every train stations in Japan. I will share what I know based on my experience.
Locker Storage in Japan |
There are usually three sizes of locker storages in Japan: Small, Medium, Large storages. Small locker will cost you for 300 Yen, medium locker will cost you for 500 Yen, while large locker will cost for 600 Yen. There are more small and medium size lockers than larger lockers, so you might decide about which luggage you want to bring to Japan depends on your itinerary. I used medium size locker often in my past trip. The duration to use locker storage in Japan is usually only 1 day. They might remove your belonging if you do not show up to take your things inside the locker.
How to use:
1. Choose empty locker (of course)
2. Put your luggage or whatever you want to put inside. Remember once you lock it and you want to take your things again, you need to put your coins again inside. Make sure you take everything you need with you, unless you want to spend more money.
3. Put 100 Yen coins inside until the amount becomes zero. You might want to change your money to coins first. For example I put 5 times 100 Yen coins inside because I took medium size locker.
4. Close your locker, and lock it with the key. Once you lock it, you will be able to take the key out and keep it. Please remember your locker number and the locker storage place.
How spacious is the space inside a locker storage?
As what you can see from my pictures, medium size locker fits 2 cabin size luggages plus 1 backpack and still have little space left. I tried to check small size locker and it fits 1 cabin size luggage plus 1 backpack. Meanwhile, large size locker will fit 3 cabin size luggages.
There is another type of locker storage in Japan. The locker storage is using without key, just remember your own password, you also can pay with suica card. Too bad that I did not take much pictures that I can share about this type of locker storage.
